I’m CHIA-AN, HO. I am a sophomore in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University majoring in medicine. I graduated from Taichung First Senior High School. In high school, I was in science and mathematics gifted class, where I learned a lot of advanced knowledge and met many people in common. I also worked on a science project regarding the relationship between lung cancer and smoking in China Medical University. Our research found that exposure to cigarette smoke enhanced tumor progression and chemoresistance through glucose metabolism and Serine synthesis pathway (SSP). Our project won the third place in Taiwan International Science Fair in 2020.
In my college life, I participated in many extracurricular activities including photography, street dancing and basketball. I used to be the vice director in the pop dance club at my school and participated in many dance competitions. Dancing is a fun and effective way to relieve stress and improve my mood. The physical activity, music, and social interaction involved in dancing have become essential to me. I also enjoy learning subjects such as Biochemistry and Organic chemistry in my college, since they enable me to gain a deeper understanding of how the cells, tissues, and organs in our bodies function. They also provide the foundation for me to understand more complicated subjects in the future.
