I was born in a rural area of Taiwan, and due to my good academic performance, I was able to attend the best university in Taiwan. However, during my university years, I began to notice many social issues. Despite majoring in sociology, I found myself actively participating in social movements on the streets. This was primarily because I was curious about how the world operates and whether there could be better possibilities. I also realized that things are not always black and white; there is a vast gray area between right and wrong, where human nature is revealed. It seems that only through creation can we explore and express these aspects.
By chance, I came into contact with documentary filmmaking. Perhaps I am not yet capable of creating fantasy film universes, but through capturing real individuals and scenes, experiencing different lifestyles, and then narrating stories from my own perspective, I have found joy in receiving both praise and criticism from the audience throughout this process.
Subsequently, I pursued further studies in film production at the graduate level and entered the film industry to shoot documentaries. I consider myself fortunate to have such a job, and I hope that documentaries will lead me to experience and understand more unfamiliar aspects of life, becoming nourishment for my journey.
I work as a director and cinematographer for "Another Perspective," a program at Mirror TV's Arts and Culture Center. This program primarily produces 24-minute documentaries focusing on Taiwanese culture, personalities, and issues, with a strong emphasis on high-quality production. In each project, I collaborate with a journalist who proposes the shooting topics. Then, together, we direct and complete the films. My main responsibilities include cinematography, editing, sound, and all aspects of post-production.
