I am an international ESL educator at a bilingual Taiwanese school. During my time overseas I have learned a lot about educating children of a different culture as well working alongside and managing foreign teachers of various nationalities. In the classroom, my goal has always been to provide a fun, movement-rich learning experience for preschool and elementary school aged children while learning a foreign language. How I teach in the classroom has been greatly inspired by my personal life hobbies of parkour and natural movement as I have learn to understand that varied physical movement in children is just as important as their mental development.
In addition to my duties as an ESL educator, I am also responsible for managing and guiding a group of four foreign-born English Teachers in areas such as:
-helping new teachers learn and adjust to the Taiwanese work and school culture as well as general life living in a foreign country
-evaluating the abilities of Native Speaking Teachers and providing assistance in areas to improve when needed
-staying up to date on current school regulations
-working alongside the head Taiwanese teaching staff in planning monthly staff meetings, teacher/substitution schedules and special events that will take place during the school year
These efforts help the ensure that everything in the school is running smoothly and the foreign teachers can feel welcomed, supported and guided while learning how to grow as a teacher as well as helping them integrate and better understand Taiwanese society.
HESS International schools are a full immersion English program for Taiwanese children from ages 3 to 14. During my time here, I have specialized in teaching preschool aged children (ages 4-5) and elementary school children (ages 6-8). The students are educated in the English vocabulary, phonics, reading, and writing, and for grade school children: English grammar and literature. Preschool aged children in my classes also have the opportunity to have art and physical education in English, where they have the opportunity further develop their motor skills, explore natural movement and other athletic skills, and express themselves in an artistic manner in English. In addition to art, grade school children have the opportunity to learn science in English and take on various creative projects that allow them to tap into their creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills while speaking a foreign language.
Cambly is an online teaching platform, where native English speakers can tutor non-native speakers. During my time with Cambly, I have developed a client base of over 100 students from over 20 different countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America.
