Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder and offen occurs in young people. Defecation disorder amd repeated abdominal pain can affect learning effectiveness,social activities, and seriously affect the quality of life. The cause of IBS is often related to physical and mental illness. Especiallyoccurs before the age of 18, it can be said to be a fairly young disease. Adolescent anxiety has gradually increased tendency,and coexist with IBS. IBS although not threat to life,but it willaffect personal physical and mental health,quality of life. Even increase the burden of medical resources. Thence, the purpose of this study was toexplore the related between anxiety and IBS in adolescent.A cross-sectional study was carried out in Hualien two high schools. Subjects were recruited using random stratified sampling to select high school students in two schools. All of 468 questionnaires were formally collected and 388 valid questionnairs were recovered, with a recovery rate of 83%. The research tool used the Rome Ⅲ Diagnostic Questionnaire for Adult Function Gastrointestinal Disease, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) and Demographic Inventory Scale. The data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistics, Independent t test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's Chi-squared test, and Logistic regression.The results showed that in the anxiety part of adolescents:(1)More than half of adolescents have mild State Anxiety and moderate Trait Anxiety, largeradolescents have higher anxiety.(2)Females, obese BMI, no after school tutoring,irregular exercise and better grades have higer anxiety.(3)The third grade State Anxiety is significantly higher than the first grade.(4)State Anxiety and Trait Anxiety of irregular exercisewas significantly higher than the regular exercise.(5)There were no significancet differences between age, BMI, after school tutoring or anxiety;In the part of adolescents with IBS(1)The prevalence of IBS in high school students was 28.1% in the subjects.(2)IBS occurs in females, high school students, 16 years old, normal BMI, irregular exercise, salty food, frequent dairy products and non spicy food.(3)Among the IBS students, the subtype of IBS-Diarrhea(IBS-D) and IBS-Mixed(IBS-M) had the highest percentage.(4)There was statistically significant difference regarding IBS between Gender, regular exercise, and dietary taste preferences.(5)Statistically significantdifference in IBS between grade, age, BMI, after school tutoring, spicy food preferences and dairy products.(6)IBS was associated with doctor visits and decreased social activity.(7)No relativitic between IBS and absence and grades.(8)Related to anxiety and IBS.(9)The study found that anxiety increases, and there was an increase in IBS(adds ratio 1.041-1.057).The study made recommendations based on the results and discussion. Provide future research and practical experience, focusing on adolescent anxiety and IBS. Formulate care strategies to maintain the physical andmental health of adolescent.
